The family story
The Chincholikar family's recorded story begins with Ramachandra and Laxmi Bai, the eldest ancestors named in the family's own genealogy. Through their son Bhagwant Rao and his wife Rama Bai, the line divided into the two great branches this record follows — the families of Govind Rao and Moreshwar Rao.
From Govind Rao's son Avdhoot Rao and his wife Revati came five sons — Purushottam, Vishnupant, Mahadeo, Madhukar and Kamlakar — each the head of a major branch you can open below. Moreshwar Rao's line continues through Dattatreya (and his son Narayan Rao, "Babasaheb") and Digambar.
The family's roots lie across Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra — Ujjain, Dewas, Indore, Shajapur and beyond. Over nine generations, a handful of names has grown into more than 150 members, today living and working from Indore and Ujjain to Pune, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and as far as Sydney.
Compiled from the family's hand-drawn charts and photo albums. The first four generations are shown below — click any card marked Open branch → to follow that line down to its youngest children.
